After working over-time every night this week, I went in to work on Friday and discovered that a mix up had graciously granted me an additional day off, so I gladly took it and Justin and I made the 13 hour treck to Virginia a few days earlier. Its so nice to be back "home." If only I could swing by Bridgewater and drop in on apartment B5 to do a little catching up with some old roomies, my life would be complete. *sigh* As it stands though, I think that I'll drop by good 'ole BC to visit a couple of my favorite old profs. And hopefully, Emily and I are going to get together to do a little bonding as well.

I went online tonight to check the Green Valley Bookfair schedule only to discover that it doesn't begin until the day that we have to leave. I think, in light of these new circumstances, we'll be leaving a little later than originally sceduled on Sunday. I'm willing to take a long, tired Monday at work for the sake of books, and cheap books at that. *sigh* how I miss the book fair.

People in Memphis are horrible...I was listening to the new and apparenty someone in Memphis hit a puppy with a baseball bat! Who would DO something like that?!?!?! He was taken to the humane society in (I would assume) pretty bad condition. Poor little Scooter. It takes a truely hartless bastard to beat a tiny little puppy with a bat.

At any rate. I had to work over yet again tonight. I spent nearly 11 hours of my day at work. It was very lame indeed, but at least this paycheck will kick ass. Still, nothing rapes your day in the ass quite like spending 11 hours at work. Hopefully management will get its act together soon and put an end to the madness. Until then I don't look to have much freetime. If only I ran the world; I would handle things so much differently (and better).

*sigh*
It has been such a long week, and it's only Tuesday. My house is in a shambles becuase I've been feeling a bit under the weather as of late, so I've sort of let things go. Our table is cluttered. Soda cans are littering the living room floor and there is a stack of dishes in the sink that is overflowing onto our tiny little counter, so rather than tending to all of this I'm blogging. At least I have my priorities straight. I've had to work over every night this week, and I don't anticipate any change. We've gotten some new form types and they take about twice as long to process as the old forms. That wouldn't be a problem if we were recieving less files, or if management was insightful enough to hire more people, but traffic is the same and management is stupid, so I get to bust my butt.

I remember that in an earlier entry, I promised a reflection on the wonders of autumn in Mississippi and I realized today that I had yet to write anything more about it, so here goes...The leaves peaked about a week ago, bursting into full, fall color that was so magnificent that words would fail to capture the glory. The thing I dig about fall here in good ole mississippi is that, unlike in Oakland, or ever VA, it lingers. The weather is warm, so the leaves aren't prematurely frozen off the limbs. Even now in the middle of November, there are brightly colored leaves still clinging to the trees. I dig autumn immensly.

But that was before I talked to the Kristin, my sister, and my wonderful roomie. All is fair in the world once again.

Saturday was fabulous. Justin and I took a trip to Burmingham Alabama, which is about a 4 hour trip from Oxford, so that I could meet Anne Rice. She was holding a book signing for her new novel "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt." She has converted back to Catholicism and is now dedicating her writing talents to setting down a first person narrative on the life of Christ. We got to hear her speak on her new novel, and her return to the church, as well as the despair that she was in when she wrote The Vampire Chronicles (which make a notable contribution to my geek factor). I realize just how truly geeky I was while waiting in line to get my book signed. I was among "my kind," but I quickly realized how painfully uncool everyone there was. It was good to have my inner nerd fed though. Since my departure from BC that part of myself has been a bit neglected, as Justin doesn't have a very big geek factor.

At any rate, I now have a respectable Anne Rice collection that consists of a signed copies of "Interview with the vampire," "Blood and Gold" as well as her new novel. Life is good.

So, Hollween has come and passed, and somehow it's November already. When did that happen? October just sort of flew by. My Holloween was uneventful, although Justin and I did buy pumpkins to carve. We never actuall got around to doing it though and they are still in the backseat of the car awaiting their Halloween destiny, which I fear they've missed because of my nasty procrastination. Perhaps we'll rescue them and carve them sometime this week. Then at least they'll get to be jack o lanterns anyway.

My parents and sister are coming down for a visit this weekend. I'm anxious to hear what they have to say about the 13 plus hour drive. Not sure what we'll be doing. So far, I'm thinking Faulkner's house and a sweet potato festival (they always have such good food). It won't be any Maple Syrup Festival to be sure, but I don't see how anything could top a Festival in Highland county.
