Last night, Justin and I went to the Ford Center to listen to Salman Rushdie (author of "The Satanic Verses", speak about his new novel, "Shalimar the Clown". And might I say, he is a rather amazing speaker, witty but insightful. I won't bore you with my reflection on his wonderful speech, because anything I could say wouldn't do it justice (and I'm lazy). So, I'll just post a link to the student newspaper's review
here Perhaps when my head isn't throbbing, I'll grace you all with my own wonderful remarks about his glorious speech.
It has been quite some time since my last post (I'm such a bad little blogger)...I'm not sure where to begin...
On the trip home to Virginia, Justin and I drove up through Kentucky, instead of through Tennessee and it ended up taking about 17 hours as opposed to the usual 13. We did stop for White Castle though, and that (in my humble opinion was well worth the extra few hours on the road).
Justin and I did the Christmas eve thing with his family. We went to the Christmas eve service at East Point followed by a late night dinner at Jess'...Oh, how I missed Jess' hotdogs and chocolate shakes....*sigh*
Christmas morning we woke up early (at least it seemed early) and opened gifts with Justin's family. Then it was time to eat again...Christmas dinner...Yumm. Justin and his parents drove me to my family's house where I finished off Christmas day with my parents, sister and the like.
I spent a few days with my family, then Justin came to visit me in Oakland because he just missed me too much. We drove back to good ole VA where we spent New Year's eve with his family, and got his mom a little drunk at the Texas Steak house. Emily and I did a shot of Jack Daniel's to keep her company. We watched the ball drop, and went to bed, so we could make the trecherous treck back to Mississippi the next day.
All in all, a wonderful Christmas season.
And if anyone is interested, here are some of my favoite things (christmas gifts that is):
Diamond earrings from my sweet Justin
Several seasons of Friends
Dress clothes from the parents
1 book (the complete works of Poe)
a hand croched blanket made by Joyce (Justin's mom)
Coffeemaker (mostly for Justin)
DVD player
It was a good Christmas for Joanna!, and I hope everyone else's was great too.
