We're finally moved in completely (I think...I hope). We have our phone line hooked up, finally, and we're starting to settle in to our new place. I don't use the back porch as much as I thought I would, but I try to eat breakfast out there before work, which is nice. We bought a slip 'n slide last week. Serious good times. Welp, I'm off to bed...

Hooray for 5th Sunday. No Sunday School lesson to plan and I actually got to sleep in 2 days this week. I needed it to, what with working almost 50 hours last week and quite a challenging week ahead. We're supposed to be getting 8 new people this week, which means I'll be helping with training 2 days this week. I enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but it is quite tiring work. Should be fun though. Guess that's all for now...

First I want to say that "new Blogger" seems like a pain in the ass. I don't know why people insist on messing with shit that doesn't need to be fixed. Perhaps in time I will learn to like this better, but that's my initial impression.

At any rate, complaining about blogger isn't the reason I started this post anyway.

Since I last posted a few things have happened that I want to make special note of. First, Kurt Vonnegut died on Wednesday of last week (the 11th I believe). I was going to post something that day, but our internet server was being stupid, so it had to wait until now. I've since broken out "Cat's Cradle" in order to do a little re-reading. The literary world lost a good one.

Secondly, I went to my first step show. Twas very cool, although some Sororoties need to learn that stepping is not the same thing as dancing. After the contest was over, Justin and I stood front and center for the Nappy Roots concert here on campus. We were in the front row, so close that we had to look up to see the performers. Twas very awesome if I do say so myself. And after the show I found ten dollars. It was quite the good night for me.

And lastly, I just want to make mention of the Virginia Tech shooting. I was shocked to hear it on the news yesterday. It's so sad to know that something so terrible happened so close to home. I don't really know what to say about it.

Alright. I think that was everything. If I forgot something, there's always tomorrow. Speaking of which, I have to be at work tomorrow at 6 a.m. to observe the training of 4 new employees. I guess you could call it my training to do the training. So I best be off to bed soon.

One more quick thing. Justin and I found a house. (I dont' think I've mentioned it previously, but they are tearing down the Village Apartments b/c the chancelor here is a dick head). Anyway, it's an adorable little house with a beautiful back yard and it even has a white picket fence. We're sharing the house with our friend and neighbor, Grady. Should be some serious good times. I'm looking forward to it.

Happy Easter!

Today, I taught my sunday school class and enjoyed a lovely family day with Justin and his mom, dad, and sister. We had an absolutely wonderful Sunday dinner and then went to the grove, where I painted outside for the first time ever. It was fun, but the wind does pose some problems; blowing my stirofoam plate (which is my ghetto pallette) and drying the paint much more quickly than I'm used to. I figured that since I was in the grove, I would paint the grove. It turned out o.k., but I'm not completely happy with it. It looks kind of "cartoony", so I'm thinking I'll have to go back in and do some detail work and maybe add a few more trees (three hardly constitute a grove). We'll see. I hope everyone else had as fabulous an Easter as I did today.

And, I got a PROMOTION!!! I'm so excited. I interviewed for the training coordinator position on Tuesday, and Brittany (my boss) called me on Friday (I took the day off to spend with the in-laws) to tell me that she would like to offer the position to me. I accepted, and I'll start training for it this week. I can't wait. I don't think I've ever been this excited about going to work...ever.

Another short lunch-time post. Not too much has been happening. Last night, Justin and I went out to get some dinner right before the MS state and Ole Miss game was over. It took us almost half an hour to get back on campus because campus security is lame and was only letting out going traffic through. We had to drive all over oxford to get back to our apartment. We'll never do that again.

I suck. I never blog anymore. I have no excuse.

I'm home for lunch right now, so this'll be a short one, but I'll try to do this more often.

Justin and I had a nice weekend. We hung out here at the house and got some much needed rest. We started teaching Sunday School at our church at the beginning of the year. It's been fun so far. The kids we have are great, and I enjoy preparing the lessons. Well, gotta get back to work.

Today, I bought some oil paints at wal-mart and tried my hand at it. Their texture is so rich and the colors are much more vibrant than any other paint medium that I've worked with so far. I loved it and I think I'll have a hard time switching back to acrylics. I painted a little 8x10 canvas with a magnolia. I started with something simple and small just to get the feel of it...next time I think I'll try a larger canvas. Although our wal-mart is always out of canvases. The biggest size they had today was 11x14 and the biggest size they ever sell is 16x20, so I'll have to wait until we're in H'burg again befor I can get anything bigger than that.

Fall has arrived in Mississippi. The weather has started to cool and the leaves are just barely beginning to change colors. Justin and I went hiking yesterday afternoon with Grady out at Enid state park. It was the perfect day for it too; there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I think I got some pretty good pictures, but it started to get dark before we finished our hike so I didn't get as many as I would have liked. Still, it was a most excellent day.

So, Justin and I decided to get a kitten. One would think that would be a pretty easy task, so we headed out to the local animal shelter and I dropped of a volunteer application. Then we went to look at the kittens. They had some cute ones so we thought we'd adopt. Nope. Apparently they need to have permission from your landlord, your veterinary records and all sorts of stuff like that. No big deal, we figured we'd just buy a cat. But, there are no pet stores in Oxford so we thought we'd go to Memphis. However, it is apparently illegal to sell kittens in the state of Tennesee. Tell me that isn't the weirdest thing you've ever heard. So we are kittenless. We'll just have to get one when we go up to VA for Thanksgiving. Mississippi never gets boring, that's for sure.

I thought I should post something today, being that its the anniversary (if you can call something sad an anniversary - to me that term denotes celebration...but that's neither here nor there...) of 9/11. It's hard to believe its been 5 years already. I was really surprised that google didn't have any special search engine decorations in honor of those who lost their lives that day. I never got to see United 93 because for some reason it didn't come to the theatre here in Oxford, but I think its out on video now, so perhaps Justin and I will rent it this weekend.
Well I guess that's all. Basically, I just wanted to acknowledge the day and remind everyone to take a moment for those who lost their lives and their families.

While I realize that everyone who used to read my blog has probably quit as a result of my not posting, I thought I should go ahead and update anyway. If for no other reason, than to have an entry for the month of August. So sad. This summer has just been one chaotic event after another. As you all know Justin and I jump started our summer with a lovely car accident, made a trip to Virginia, a trip to the Mississippi gulf coast as well as several to Memphis. What I haven't written about, I will attempt to summarize breifly. We entertained both sets of our parents. Mine came down in the middel of July for a weekend visit. Fun times. We celebrated our ONE YEAR anniversary. Marriage is fun and challenging, but I like to think the good far outweighs the bad. That was probably the biggest mile stone for me this summer. GO us! Justin's parents and his sister spent almost a week with us and that was also fun times. We had a minor car incident last week involving an ill-fated oil change and a welded on bolt. Apparently too much oil is worse than none, just so all of you know, if you ever decide to change your own oil. We got that straightened out and Justin's semester is now underway. I hope that means things will be settling down for a few months anyway. I hope to get back in the blogging groove, beginning with this lovely little post. For those of you who have been loyal to my little blog even through this drought, consider this your reward and hopefully the end of a dry season.

speaking of dry seasons, its the rainy season here in Mississippi and for me that means I will have several puddles on the floor next to my bed for the next few months, since our floor leaks. Its wonderful. Oh and yesterday was the anniversary of Katrina. Lots of news on that, but dont' be fooled by all the New Orleans coverage. Mississippi got hit much worse. Whiny NO people. I know, I've seen both places. Well I guess that's all for now.

Been quite a few days yet again, but what can I say? I'm a busy girl. Justin and I drove down to the coast last weekend with Grady, his girlfriend, his mom, his sister and her boyfriend. We went to a little island off the Mississippi coast called Ship Island. It was pretty cool, though there were too many crabs and jelly fish for me to swim comfortably. The water was warm and heavenly though. We also saw dolphins and someone fishing caught a little shark. That was kinda creepy (the shark not the dolphins). I've never seen so many dolphins in one place before (except at sea world and that doesn't count). At any rate it was a blast. But I have to go to work now...
